David Hockney

Born 1937

Born in Bradford, David Hockney studied at the Bradford School of Art and went on to study at the Royal College of Art, London. He was awarded the RCA Gold Medal in 1962 and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1991.
Upon leaving college Hockey travelled extensively. He lived in Paris in the early 1970s then moved to California, where he began his infamous Swimming Pool studies, and where he continues to live and work.
He has explored the potential of acrylic, oil, crayon, pastel, pen, photography, stage design, moulded paper pulp, computer imaging and every kind of graphic medium. Prints have been a major preoccupation through most his working life and he has won a number of international graphic prizes.
Hockney has exhibited widely throughout the world and his artwork is held in many public and private collections, including the Arts Council Collection, London, J Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles and Fine Arts Museum, San Francisco.
